Could Unvaccinated Friendly Pubs & Cafés Thrive Post Lockdown?

On Tuesday’s Good Morning Britain, Piers Morgan endorsed Charlie Mullins right to insist that his staff have a Covid vaccine. Pimlico Plumber Mullins said that he would be introducing a new hiring policy. Put simply, it’s no jab, no job. Virtue-signalling muppet Morgan (God he’s odious isn’t he?), said he agreed and went on to declare that so called anti-vaxxers could use anti-vaxxer plumbing firms. Morgan has never been the most eloquent, never mind the most intelligent broadcaster.

It got me thinking though. More than 4 million people in the UK have received the first Pfizer dose, with the government aiming to vaccinate 15 million vulnerable people by mid-February. The talk then has inevitably turned to exiting lockdown and opening up society. We shouldn’t hold our breath though. Some newspapers reported this morning, that the current lockdown will go on until Good Friday. Good grief more like it. If restrictions are eased when the majority of us are immunised, will those of us who opt not to take the experimental and unnecessary jab, be frozen out of society?

The Richie Allen Show reported late last year that Nadhim Zahawi, the UK’s vaccine minister, said that pubs, restaurants and other businesses may well insist that customers prove they are vaccinated as a condition of entry. When the BBC asked him about immunity passports Zahawi said; “We are looking at the technology. And, of course, a way of people being able to inform their GP that they have been vaccinated. But, also, I think you’ll probably find that restaurants and bars and cinemas and other venues, sports venues, will probably also use that system….service providers who’ll say: ‘Look, demonstrate to us that you have been vaccinated.’ But, also, we will make the technology as easy and accessible as possible.” It’s happening. The government admitted last week, that it is funding a company to produce digital immunity passports.

Isn’t there an opportunity staring the revenue starved hospitality industry in the face?

I know if I was a publican, I would be shouting from the rooftops that were I ever to reopen, I would never turn anyone away if they hadn’t been vaccinated. Customers medical information is absolutely none of my business. But it throws up another question and an important one. Will the government seek to compel firms to enforce a no passport no entry rule? That would require legislation. Sadly, lockdown has finished off many pubs, clubs and café’s. I’m still stunned at the compliance. I couldn’t sit idly by while my business went down the drain. I’d have resisted, opened anyway and forced them to arrest me. If the entire industry had adopted that approach, the government would have been helpless. C’est la vie.

My advice to landlords and ladies and to all those who run entertainment venues is this, don’t allow yourselves to be turned into enforcement agents for a fascistic Orwellian agenda. If it is left to businesses to decide for themselves whether an immunity passport should be a condition of entry, that presents a great opportunity for those who choose to do the right thing. I might open my own boozer this summer. The name? Well that’s obvious. The Unvaccinated Arms!
