What kind of fuckery is this? US President Joe Biden wants to compel medical insurance providers to cover hormone therapy and genital reconstructions for transgender patients. No, this isn’t a joke.
This means that in the future, trans folks could access treatments that were previously unaffordable, like remodelling facial bones to make them more feminine, breast construction or reduction and laser hair removal.
The treatments will be classed as “essential health benefits” and the insurance provider will be liable.
According to The Telegraph:
Joe Biden’s administration approved a measure forcing some private healthcare plans to cover hormone therapy and genital reconstructions for transgender patients, calling it an “important step” to ending discrimination.
The groundbreaking decision applies to a policy put forward by Colorado, which will become the first US state to require some health insurance plans to pay for transition-related procedures.
The policy will come into effect in 2023 and applies to individual and group health insurance plans for companies with fewer than 100 employees. It is estimated to affect roughly a quarter of Colorado’s health insurance market.
I wonder if Coloradans who identify as unicorns will be covered? I mean, no unicorn is complete without an alicorn right?
If Biden’s administration gets its way and it will, it’ll lead to the most bizarre medical insurance claims won’t it?

Critics of the plan argue that this will lead to increased health insurance costs. Of course it will. And as the insurance companies will not be allowed to ask if a new client is trans (because of anti-discrimination laws) everyone’s premiums will skyrocket.
