Good morning. It’s a rotten one here in Super Salford. I hope it’s better wherever you are. I’d like to briefly address a claim that has been made by more than one patron of this website, that is, that I have deleted comments that I disapprove of.
I have never deleted a single comment from these pages. Never. Neither has my great pal Hayden Hewitt. Hayden manages the site. Why would we? Firstly, I rarely read the comments beneath the articles. This is not because I’m uninterested in your take. I am of course, but there aren’t enough hours in the day for me to read them.
Secondly, I am impervious to insults no matter how nasty they get. I wear them as a badge of honour. I often refer to people in the public eye in very unflattering terms. It would be hypocritical and frankly pathetic, if I was to delete comments about me on the basis that I found them to be offensive. I’m many things, but I am no hypocrite.
I’m old school. I find it perfectly reasonable that you would disagree with my conclusions, whether on these pages, or on the radio show.
I grew up in commercial radio where I was robustly challenged, both by contributors and my colleagues on a daily basis. It took some getting used to mind, but I think it was the making of me. I grew a very thick skin and learned that there’s nothing wrong with being wrong.
The site automatically holds back a percentage of comments for moderation. And for some reason which we haven’t figured out, sometimes a posted comment just won’t show up on the page. It isn’t perfect. Nothing is, but it works pretty well most of the time.
This is largely due to the fact that Hayden keeps an eye on it and puts out fires when they flare up. He doesn’t get paid for that. He’s been an enormous help. Please thank him when you bump into him here.
I hope that clears it up. There will always be moaners who throw their toys out of the pram because I don’t believe the Earth is flat, or because I just won’t get it into my head that viruses do not exist and Andrew Kaufmann and blah blah fucking blah. Right?
You will find their comments right across this website. Why? Because they are not being deleted, that’s why!
