The Russian people are about to get a whole lot healthier. Coca-Cola, McDonald’s and Starbucks have joined a host of companies suspending business in Richie in protest at the Ukraine invasion.
According to the BBC:
McDonald’s said it was temporarily closing its roughly 850 restaurants in Russia, while Starbucks also said its 100 coffee shops would shut.
McDonald’s said the move was a response to the “needless human suffering unfolding in Ukraine”.
The company said it was “impossible to predict” when it would reopen.
“The conflict in Ukraine and the humanitarian crisis in Europe has caused unspeakable suffering to innocent people,” chief executive Chris Kempczinski said in a memo to staff that was shared publicly.
“As a system, we join the world in condemning aggression and violence and praying for peace.”
McDonald’s said it would continue to pay its roughly 62,000 staff in Russia. The firm has also been experiencing supply chain issues there.
McDonald’s, Coca-Cola and other companies have been under pressure to act as Russian violence against civilians has escalated.
Hmm..I wonder how long Mickey D’s will continue to pay it’s Russian employees while Big Mac’s are rotting in warehouses across the country?
Oh, that’s right, Big Mac’s don’t rot. They’re full of all sorts of chemicals to prevent them breaking down aren’t they? I haven’t touched a McDonald’s (or any fast food franchise for that matter), in over fifteen years. It’s all garbage.
Seriously though, McDonald’s and Coca-Cola’s shareholders should move to immediately fire their CEO’s. I’m pretty sure that by wilfully acting against the companies interests and share price, they’re breaking some law or other.
I hope the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) investigates any short selling by anyone connected to these giant corporations before the announcement of the Russian boycott.
I won’t hold my breath.
