The Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden told SKY News this morning that the government is considering “covid certification” to allow spectators return to sport and other outdoor events.
Dowden told SKY’s Gillian Joseph that he hopes “to get people back in significant numbers by June 21st.” He said that a covid certificate is not a vaccine passport, but wouldn’t go into any more details.
Dowden’s cabinet colleague Michael Gove is leading a review into whether vaccine passports can speed up the reopening of society. One proposal is that people would download an app, which would contain the details of their covid status.
Simply put, you’d arrive at a restaurant and your server or greeter would scan your phone to see if you have had a vaccine, or if you recently passed a rapid covid test.
The system could be used at supermarkets, pubs, theatres, venues, stadiums or anywhere people gather. It’s already in operation in Israel. I’ve made my peace with the knowledge that I’ll never again see the inside of a music venue, a theatre or a pub.
I will not take their tests to prove that I am healthy. I will never take their vaccines. Life will be very different for me. It might become more difficult, but I will never give in to tyrants.
