Hospital May Lose 1,000 Staff When Jab Mandate Comes Into Force

The Times has reported that one UK hospital faces losing as many as 1,000 workers when the vaccine mandate comes into force in April. According to Times reporter Katie Gibbons:

Clive Kay, the chief executive of King’s College Hospital (KCH), said he was “worried” that 10 per cent of the 14,000 hospital staff had not received their first dose. Those who are not vaccinated and cannot be deployed to an alternative non-patient-facing role risk losing their jobs, he said.

It follows a tense exchange between Sajid Javid, the health secretary, and Steve James, a consultant anaesthetist on the ICU at the hospital, who is not vaccinated, on Friday. James told Javid that the science did not support mandatory vaccines for NHS staff.

The health secretary has since criticised “anti-vaccination fanatics” who cause “senseless disruption”. He wrote in The Mail on Sunday: “We need to call out the dangerous nonsense pushed around by some, because the case for getting the jab has only become more overwhelming.”

I saw that exchange between Javid and the anaesthetist on Friday. Steve James told the Health Secretary:

“I have not had a vaccination. I do not want to have a vaccination. The vaccines are reducing transmission only for about eight weeks for Delta, with Omicron it’s probably less. And for that, I would be dismissed if I don’t have a vaccine? The science isn’t strong enough.”

Javid sheepishly replied that he disagreed with the consultant. Javid is a former banker. If it wasn’t so serious it would be laughable.

On average, I receive around a dozen emails a week from people who claim to work in the NHS, telling me that they have no intention of being jabbed.

Some NHS workers have taken to wearing purple ribbons to signal their opposition to the jab mandate. A Twitter account called NHS100k has posted pictures of nurses, radiologists and vascular scientists wearing purple bows as a show of defiance.
