Piers Morgan remains unapologetic for refusing to believe the Duchess of Sussex claim that she was suicidal. He Tweeted this morning that; “Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on.”
Emerging from his home later, Morgan told waiting reporters; “If I have to fall on my sword for expressing an honestly held opinion (about Markle), so be it.”
Piers Morgan is no defender of free speech. He has proven to be one of its greatest enemies. The former Daily Mirror editor and talent show judge made a name for himself during lockdown, for haranguing and shouting down UK government ministers on Good Morning Britain.
Morgan’s (unoriginal) approach, saw him ask a question and then jump down the interviewee’s throat before they could answer. He would then goad them and accuse them of being clueless. It got so bad that the government, for a time, refused to put ministers on the show.
The egomaniac Morgan crowed that they were terrified of him, the fearless journalist. In reality, Tory MP’s and others, were tired of being used as Morgan’s props. They were hardly scared of him. 
Worst of all, Morgan was hectoring and badgering government reps, not to demand that they prove their case for lockdowns, but to criticise them for not locking down sooner, or for screwing up the NHS track and trace system.
It got old very quickly. There’s only so many times you can watch a guy who claims to be a journalist shouting at the government, not because of what it was doing, but because it wasn’t doing it harder and faster.
This Tory government has never had a greater friend than Piers Morgan. That’s the irony.
His job, and the job of every journalist in the country, is to demand from government, irrefutable proof that lockdowns are a necessary and proportional response to the virus.
His job on GMB, was to confront the government with the dodgy PCR test DATA. His job was to platform one or two of the tens of thousands of medical and public health scientists who are convinced that lockdowns are the wrong approach and do far more harm in the long run.
Instead, Morgan was complicit in the de-platforming of these scientists. Yet he would have you believe that he is a martyr for free speech. Please!
In the last few weeks, Morgan campaigned for the coronavirus vaccine to be mandated by coercion. He’s all in with vaccine passports and “no jab, no job” too.
But we now inhabit a post-truth world. People can claim to be anything and everything. They need only repeat it over and over again. Morgan claims to be a zealous defender of free speech and no doubt his next employer will market him as such. In reality he’s nothing more than a latter day Lord Haw Haw.
