Save The Children Turns Down £1 Million Donation From Gas Company

The charity Save The Children has turned a £1 million donation because of its opposition to fossil fuels. North Sea gas producer Neptune Energy wrote a cheque for a million quid. Save The Children said, “No thanks.”

According to The Telegraph:

The charity refused money offered by Neptune Energy two weeks ago on the grounds that it is “committed to working on climate change issues for the foreseeable future”.

Neptune has instead donated $2m to support Ukraine efforts via the International Rescue Committee and the Red Cross, and is also matching donations made by its employees around the world.

Save the Children told The Telegraph it is planning to “stop taking donations as soon as possible from companies whose core business is in fossil fuels” – risking controversy over whether it is losing out by shutting out an industry critical to Western energy security as the free world seeks to wean itself off dependence on Russian oil and gas….

It (Neptune) approached Save the Children about a $1m donation earlier this month, but the charity told Neptune: “As an organisation we are committed to working on climate change issues for the foreseeable future and therefore, we are unable to accept this donation.”

Save the Children added that it “would be able to consider a donation to our children’s Emergency Fund, which supports children in Ukraine and other complex crises around the world”.

In a letter to Save the Children’s trustees querying the decision, Neptune said it had chosen the charity on the basis of workers’ wishes.

The refusal had left workers “shocked, dismayed and left wondering whether their own personal donations will no longer be welcomed by Save the Children”, it added.

This really is Vaudeville.

You’re not going to Adam and Eve it, but the vice-chairman of Save The Children, Richard Winter, is only a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers.”

Why is this relevant? I hear you ask. Well, PwC only advises a number of energy companies and Anne Fahy, who sits on the board of PwC, well Anne worked for BP for nearly thirty years!

Hypocrisy? Vaudeville.

“Sorry kids, there are no more food trucks coming today, because we turned down a cheque for a million quid to save the planet.”
