A microbiologist told Talk Radio this morning, that he’s prepared to wear a face covering for the rest of his life. Dr. Andrew Preston told Julia Hartley-Brewer, “I don’t find it a significant imposition to do so.”
Hartley-Brewer suggested to the batty boffin that the evidence that masks prevent transmission is flimsy at best. The presenter also bemoaned the fact the the government has been saying for months that we need to get on with our lives and learn to live with covid-19.
She said:
“I’m not going to wear a mask in a shopping centre. In fact when I’m legally required to and I actually can’t physically get on a plane without wearing a mask, I do not wear a mask. I have a mental health exemption because I am too sane to wear a random piece of cloth over my face which does absolutely nothing and impedes my ability to interact with other human beings…”
In response, the microbiologist said:
“Saying it does absolutely nothing is not correct. It’s a small effect. I’m not saying they do a fantastic job…if there’s perhaps some sort of mitigation that can help reduce it to some level and it’s not having a massive infringement…”
Hartley-Brewer interjected to say that it is a massive infringement. She went on to ask him how many deaths a day would stop him wearing a mask and if he was prepared to wear a mask forever, to which he replied:
“Yeah I might well in Winter when there’s high levels of respiratory viruses, whether it be covid or not, I might choose to wear a mask if I’m going into a crowded environment for the rest of my life.”
Yeah I might, because I really don’t find it a significant imposition to do so.”
Dep Chief Medical officer Jonathan van Tam warns Covid will make this Christmas "problematic".
