I burst out laughing when I logged onto Twitter this morning. Incidentally, I don’t Tweet. My account was deleted. I opened a dummy account to enable me to contact potential guests when all else has failed.
What made me laugh? Well, #sendherback was trending. Very good. That is funny. Her of course, refers to the British-Iranian dual citizen Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, recently liberated from 6 years of incarceration in Tehran.
Nazanin and her husband Richard met the press yesterday and while Nazanin came across well and spoke eloquently about her ordeal and her optimism for the future, she left no-one in attendance in any doubt about her feelings for the current government. She’s not very fond of Boris Johnson’s regime, to put it mildly.
Someone, presumably a Boris Johnson devotee, but maybe not, decided it would be funny to get #sendherback trending.
It is funny. I bet Zaghari-Ratcliffe herself chuckled when she saw it or rather, if she saw it.
The outrage came down like an avalanche all over Twitter. Outrage is all the rage these days. The writer Will Black has no sense of humour whatsoever. To be fair, Will is a bit of a fuckwit though. Mandela? Really Will?

Richard O’Neill is a member of some Jeremy Corbyn project or other. He’s outraged too, God help him. It’s a fucking joke man! Nobody really wants the woman sent back to Iran!
What has happened to the great British wit? Is satire dead now?
