Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today show earlier, Tory MP Marcus Fysh branded vaccine passports “really draconian”and an “utter disgrace.”
The Yeovil MP also said that vaccine passports are “a massive imposition on our liberties” and a “massive attack” on personal freedom. Asked if he would defy the ship and vote against the measures Fysh said:
“Of course I’ll vote against it. Everybody should vote against it. This is a fundamental thing about what sort of society we want to live in. It’s a disgrace that they’re pursuing that, an utter disgrace!”
Last night, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the government would implement its Plan B covid strategy to combat the allegedly more transmissible omicron variant. Plan B includes mandatory covid passes for nightclubs and large venues.
From next Wednesday, December 15, the NHS Covid Pass on the NHS App will become mandatory for entry into nightclubs and other venues where large crowds assemble.
These include unseated indoor events with 500 or more attendees, unseated outdoor events with 4,000 or more attendees and any event with 10,000 or more attendees.
The smartphone passes, which show whether a person has had a vaccine or a recent negative test, have already been used for entry into some large events and in overseas travel since vaccines have been widely available.
