Stephen Watson, the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police (GMP), has received widespread acclaim for turning his force around and guiding it out of special measures.
Watson is regarded as an “old school” chief constable who declared himself to be “anti-woke” when he took over GMP.
He blamed senior leadership for the problems he inherited and promised to bring a “dialled up muscularity” to the job.
The failing force was moved into special measures in late 2020, but last week the watchdog, His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS), said that GMP had made sufficient improvements and no longer needed enhanced monitoring.
Watson spoke to LBC’s Nick Ferrari this morning and explained his approach to policing
