The Telegraph is reporting this morning that NHS Trusts across the country have issued guidance to hospitals that says patients should be admitted based on the gender they identify with. This means they can choose which ward, lavatory and shower facilities they use.
The result of this is that men who identify as women and who have been convicted of sex offences, can be placed on female wards. Three hospitals (Devon, Oxford and Nottinghamshire) have told staff that a criminal history should be part of a risk assessment when placing male-born people on female-only wards.
The hospitals have not said trans sex offenders should be barred from female wards. According to The Telegraph:
Some trusts have labelled those patients who express discomfort as transphobic, compared them to racists in official guidelines and ordered staff to report them to police for hate crimes.
Until 2019, one hospital group instructed medics to withdraw treatment if a female patient refused to accept a physically intact male on women-only wards.
Dr Jane Hamlin, president of the Beaumont Society, a trans support group, said: “If anyone starts off with an assumption that a trans person is a sex offender – or even a potential sex offender – that is discrimination and transphobia. All patients, including trans people, should feel safe when in hospital.”
I had to read the Telegraph article three times. I poured cold water on my face and read it again as I couldn’t believe my eyes.
Hospitals have accused female patients of hate crimes and reported them to the police when the women expressed concerns for their safety. One hospital threatened to withdraw treatment for a woman, if she didn’t shut up about the fact that a man was placed on her ward.
How do you deal with this? It’s patently insane. It’s lunacy to instruct staff that even if a trans patient has been convicted of a sexual offence, it shouldn’t necessarily bar him from a female ward.
It is patently insane to tell women that they should shut up about men being placed on their wards if they don’t want to be reported for hate crimes.
Enough is enough. Men are not women. There is no such thing as a trans woman. It is pure fantasy. Nobody is born in the wrong body. There are biological males and biological females. End of story.
