A leak has revealed that former US President Donald Trump will be indicted on 34 felony counts when he appears in a courtroom in New York City today.
Trump is the first former President in US history to face criminal charges.
According to The Telegraph:
Donald Trump will be told he has been charged with 34 felony counts for falsifying business records as he is placed under arrest on Tuesday, leaked details on his indictment have revealed.
Mr Trump is not expected to be placed in handcuffs or have mugshots taken, a source has told Yahoo News.
The former American leader, the first former president to be criminally indicted, is due to appear at Manhattan Criminal Court to answer the charges – brought to him following an investigation into allegations of a hush money payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels.
The crime of falsifying business records is classed as a Class E felony and carries a potential jail term of up to four years. However, a New York law enforcement official has said that “no one gets jail time for that as a first offender”.
Mr Trump made a last-minute change to his legal team on Monday, appointing Todd Blanche, a top white-collar criminal defence lawyer, as his new lead counsel and sidelining Joe Tacopina, who appeared to publicly disagree with the former president in TV interviews.
