A Waterford City councillor raised concerns about the safety of 5G masts at a plenary meeting in City Hall last week. Councillor Seamus O’Donnell asked if a safety inspection could be carried out on Waterford’s 5G masts
According to the Waterford News & Star:
The subject of 5G masts came up in the recent Plenary meeting at Waterford City Hall, with one Councillor raising his “concerns”.
Cllr Seamus O’Donnell asked the Council if they have “any power to keep a 5G mast five metres from a […] house.
“Have we got any power to do anything?”
Cllr O’Donnell asked if the masts were a “danger to your health”.
“I don’t understand why they’re allowed to go there, or who gave the permission for it to go there.”
Cllr went on to reference a CNN report that a city in America “had to remove their masts because they were interfering with the air traffic coming in”.
Mayor Cllr John O’Leary said: “Okay Councillor, I thought you’d be a TG4 man and not a CNN man.”
A member of the Council Executive told Cllr McDonnell that there was no health risk from 5G masts and that they are an important tool for rural Waterford.
Cllr O’Donnell then asked if there could be an inspection carried out on the masts. The Council did not respond to this request.
