Laura Tobin is a weathergirl on ITV’s Good Morning Britain. Her Twitter bio made me laugh. It reads, Meteorologist @gmb #NotAWeatherGirl I love the environment & Climate change, sweets & Bon Jovi. Mummy to Charlotte..
How nice. She loves climate change, sweets and Bon Jovi.
And she is a weathergirl, although she’s no Ulrika Jonsson. Now there was a weathergirl. I never missed a forecast. When we were kids my mates used to wonder why I would bang on about the weather. “It’s going to rain later,” I’d say. Or,”It’s supposed to clear up tomorrow.”
Ulrika ka ka ka ka ka ka. That’s how I knew.
Anyway, Tobin is over in Egypt, at Sharm-El-Sheikh for COP 27. Remember, she’s not a climatologist. She’s not a geologist either. She’s a weathergirl.
This morning, Tobin told GMB viewers that there is a huge difference between 1.5 and 3 degree warming. She said that a global temperature rise of 3 degrees could see Alexandria under several feet of water.
And not just Alexandria! No! Tobin says that Buckingham Palace would flood too, with water up to the second or third floor.
This is of course a load of old bollox. Tobin’s predecessors at ITV (and the BBC) told us 25 years ago, that the Maldives would be submerged by now. It isn’t.
Alexandria will not flood. London won’t be under five feet of water either.
The problem is, when these things don’t happen, it’ll be too late.
This planet will be a prison from which the only escape will be death.
