In an interview with NBC News last night, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed that World War Three may have already started.
Zelensky was asked if he accepted that US President Joe Biden couldn’t agree to a no-fly zone over Ukraine, because NATO would then be at war with Russia.
Zelensky replied:
“Nobody knows whether it may have already started. And what is the possibility of this war if Ukraine will fall, in case Ukraine will? It’s very hard to say.
And we’ve seen this 80 years ago, when the Second World War had started… nobody would be able to predict when the full-scale war would start.”
The Ukrainian President is currently on a virtual tour of the world’s parliaments. He addressed the US Congress on Tuesday and he has appeared via video-link before the UK, Australian and Canadian parliaments too.
Today, he’ll address Germany’s Bundestag. Zelensky is on a begging mission. He wants a no-fly zone. So far, the West has said no chance.
The Ukrainian military is claiming that Russia bombed a theatre that was sheltering hundreds of civilians including dozens of children. Yesterday, the US Embassy alleged that Russian soldiers shot a dozen unarmed civilians who were queuing for bread.
However, such allegations must be taken with a large pinch of salt. The Ukrainians desperately want the no-fly zone. It can be argued therefore, that they’ll say anything if they believe it will lead to a change of heart in the West.
